About me

Basics

The idea of having a special section of the site about me is a bit silly since clearly the entire site is about me. Nevertheless, this is a place where I can have personal information that doesn't belong elsewhere.

I was born in Oxford, England but I have lived in Melbourne, Australia for basically all my life. I went to Caulfield Grammar School and then to Melbourne University to do a Science Degree. I did some Maths, Computer Science and a few other things there before going to Monash University to do my Diploma of Education. While I was a student I met and subsequently married Rosemary Humberstone who has been my wife for 3685 days (~10.1 years).

I am now a Maths teacher at Trinity Grammar School where I can share my love of maths with others. Before teaching I did not think that high school maths could be fun again (once I'd done university level maths) but it's surprisingly satisfying.

I am a Christian, contrary to the stereotype of academic people being atheists. Moreover, I actually believe the bible and in particular that Jesus was literally killed and raised to life. A long standing goal of mine is to have a comprehensive list of answers to objections against Christianity on this website. In the mean time you will have to raise your objections with me in person.

In everything I do, I aim to bring glory to God, since he made me for that purpose and I believe that everything good comes from him. This is why I write "Soli Deo Gloria" at the end of my calculator and computer programs, which is Latin for "Glory to God alone" and I like to use Latin to indicate how clever I am. Although I try to bring glory to God I am definitely not claiming to be morally perfect.

Now that you know the basics of who I am, I will move on to the more frivolous information about me. I find that lists are more efficient than paragraphs for this type of thing. Please note that many of these favourites change quite frequently so these could be out of date when you are reading this page.
